Happy National Read a Book Day! Today is one of my favorite days because I am a total book nerd. I love books so much that I totally buy more than I’ll ever be able to read. Like many other things…they’re all on my to-do list.
I often daydream about having my own library. Just the thought of surrounding myself with a room full of hundreds of books soothes my soul!

I’m so proud that I am raising readers too. My kids have come to expect bedtime stories. Most nights I more than happily oblige.
Then I put them to bed and get my read on! Here are a few on that ever-growing list of mine and a few that I’ve already read and greatly enjoyed.
one | sharp objects
Read the book before you watch the show on HBO. I should have taken this advice. I fished the show last week. It was ridiculously addictive and creepily perfect. I’m sure the book is even better. I’ve purchased it and it’s next on my list!
two | girl, wash your face
My favorite quote is “Comparison is the death of joy, and the only person you need to be better than is the one you were yesterday.” I am confident that you’ll escape from the lies that keep you from the joyful, cheerful, mindful life you are meant to live after you read this one.
three | the dream daughter
I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of this book. I read it in one weekend. It seems like forever since I have read a book so quickly. I was mesmerized, transported, and just plain smitten. It goes on sale on October 2nd. Pre-order it. Seriously.
four | the perfect mother
This book is a great psychological thriller that tackles motherhood, friendship, and the delicate responsibility of taking care of children while still being oneself. Set to be made into a movie soon, I’m so glad I read the book first.
For Your Kids
one | the bee book
I adore this book. My kids adore this book. The illustrations were cute and the diagrams are extremely easy to understand. Any bug-loving kid (or adult) will love this one!
two | eraser
This book was just released, so we haven’t had a chance to read it yet. But, it’s on our list. I absolutely love anything written by Anna Kang! I’ve read all of her books to my children and they love her. We can’t wait to read them this one.
three | be kind
I don’t think I can tell my kids enough the importance of being kind in an unkind world. They get it…most of the time. The reflective story clearly and simply explains what a child can do to be kind.
four | the word collector
Have you read any of these books? Any recommendations for me or the kiddos? Let me know in the comments!
